Racers Set for OVC Outdoor Championship

Murray State track and field team will take their place at the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship meet Friday and Saturday. The Racers are looking for their first OVC Outdoor Championship since 1992. The meet is hosted by Austin Peay in Clarksville, Tennessee.

The meet begins Friday at 9:15 a.m. with the heptathlon. The field events start at 11 a.m. with the discus, while the track events begin at 3 p.m. with the 3000m steeplechase. On Saturday, the heptathlon will finish their respective events at 9 a.m. Field events start with the shot put at 11 a.m. along with the 4x100m relay beginning at 2 p.m. to start the track events. All track events on Saturday are the finals. Many Racers have had a stand-out outdoor season and look to continue their success against the rest of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Pratt Destroys Records
Tonia Pratt has set the school records in the discus and hammer throw during her freshman season back in 2012. She then broke the shot put record her sophomore year and has been among the best in Murray State history. She has gotten close or broke records throughout her four-year campaign, but this season, Pratt has set new records in all three events. She has thrown 15.01m in the shot put, 49.27m in the discus and 59.82m in the hammer. She has garnered nine top three finishes this season, including five first place marks. She also ranks 18th in the region for her hammer throw and 41st in the nation, which will earn her a bid to the NCAA Regionals.

Bohn Hot on the Track
Brittany Bohn has found her way into the record books at Murray State. Bohn has set personal records in three events during her outdoor season. She came in hot in the 3000m steeplechase setting personal record after personal record in the event. Her 11:03.25 time rank second in MSU history, just behind Katelyn Jones who set a 10:51.72 mark in 2009. Her 5:01.68 time in the mile is the best in MSU history, while her 2:12.20 in the 800m rank fifth. She has seven top three finishes, including three first places.

Conway Finds Momentum
Ashley Conway continued her outdoor season with ranking records while competing in the heptathlon. She went 6.13m in the long jump to rank 28th regionally and 45th nationally in the NCAA Division I, while also earning a NCAA regional berth. She threw 33.66m in the javelin and ran a 26.68 200m for personal bests this season. Her 4590 heptathlon score are a Murray State best and rank 51st regionally in NCAA Division I.

Austin Gets Top Finishing Mark
Kiara Austin came into the outdoor season looking to break her triple jump mark and continue her success on the field. She finished the regular season with a 12.40m triple jump distance which ranks 55th regionally and 86th nationally in NCAA Division I. She finished with five top five finishes including one first place.

Potts Hopes for NCAA Berth
Sydney Potts has set a personal record in the javelin this season, while getting on the cusp of the NCAA regionals with her distance of 42.22m. She ranks 79th regionally in NCAA Division I with that throw. She also set a 15.68 personal record in the 100m hurdles during the season. She had five top three finishes and two top finishes in the javelin.

MSU Outdoor History
Murray State track and field team set 25 top ten school records during the outdoor season. Five of those 25 are a school record, while an additional six of those time/distance are in the top three. The Racers hope to continue their winning ways and carry it into the OVC meet.

Natalie Pattin has the best 400m time for Murray State this season with a 58.28 time. Vallery Korir's 16:59.99 time in the 5000m ranks best for MSU in 2015. LeShea Shaw has the best 100m hurdles with a 14.55 time, while Taylor Adcock has the best 400m hurdles with 1:03.91. Leah Krause leads the way in the 10000m with a 38:47.68 mark. Deja Rodgers has the best 100m and 200m time with 12.23 and 25.44, respectively.
