The Murray State Racers look for their first road win of the season Wednesday when they take on the Eastern Kentucky Colonels at McBrayer Arena in Richmond, Ky. The Racers' second oldest series (behind only Tennessee Tech at 173 meetings) and will play for the 159th time as two of the founding members of the Ohio Valley Conference meet for the 71st time at EKU. The Racers are playing in Richmond for the first time since 2014 and have won the last five there since a loss in 2008.
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 25th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis and commentary. The game is also available on free online video at OVCDigital.com.
The Racers are coming off a home sweep of two games last week against Eastern Illinois (68-58) and SIUE (70-54). As the Racers look for their first three-game win streak of the season, they seem to have found the right formula. Until last week, the Racers had struggled in defending the 3-point line. But against EIU and SIUE, they held the Panthers and Cougars to a combined 21 percent on 7-of-33 attempts. The Racers also held EIU/SIUE to 37 percent from the field on 37-of-99 shots. The Racers also had a healthy 73-61 advantage on the boards.
MSU senior Wayne "Lefty" Langston continues to be one of the best big men in the OVC. In the EIU game, he scored a career-high 24 points and a season-high for the Racers on 10-14 from the field. Lefty is second in the OVC and 13th nationally in field goal percentage at 63 percent. Langston has scored in double figures in every game this season except for three games (Georgia, Wright State and Belmont) on the road.
The Racers lead the OVC West at 4-3 and to stay there, will have to win on the road for the first time this season. The Racers are 0-6 after dropping games two weeks ago at Belmont (Jan. 14) and Tennessee State (Jan. 16). MSU's non-conference road wasn't easy either, Georgia, Houston, Illinois State and Wright State. are 37-9 after the weekend.
EKU is battling in the competitive OVC East where they split at home last week. EKU beat Jacksonville State 91-88, but lost to Tennessee Tech 89-83.Â
After the game at EKU, the Racers play at UT Martin Saturday at 3 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network.
