1/7/2016 3:28:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Some late shooting woes sent the Murray State Racers (7-8, 1-1) to a 71-65 defeat in Ohio Valley Conference play to the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (11-5, 3-0) Thursday night at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.
Trailing 36-34 at the half, the Racers took their largest lead with 15:23 left when Jeffery Moss hit one of his six 3-point baskets and the Racers led 43-40.
When Tech's lead went to 10 points with 2:27 remaining, the Racers clawed back to cut the lead to 62-57 at the 1:09 mark when Bryce Jones went 4-of-5 from the line, but MSU could not make a run at the lead.
Down the stretch the Racers shooting went cold as they were 2-of-14 from the field in the final minutes of the game. The Racers suffered a season-low 28 percent shooting night on 18-of-64 shots. From 3-point range, the Racers hit just 21 percent on 6-of-28.
Moss finished the game with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting from long range. Wayne Langston added 11 points. Jones scored 13 points on 11-of-12 shooting from the free throw line.
The Racers return to action Saturday at the CFSB Center when they host the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at 5:30 p.m.
