The Murray State women look to get back on the winning side as the Racers return home to the CFSB Center Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m., tip against UNC Greensboro. The Racers are coming off their first setback of the season, a 70-63 loss at Southern Illinois on Thursday. It was MSU's first road contest of the season.
Ke'Shunan James became the 19th member of the 1,000-point club in program history in the loss at SIU. James reached the milestone on her first basket of the game. James led the Racers with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting in the loss. Jasmine Borders scored a season-high 16 points and tied her career-high with four made 3-pointers against the Salukis. Dating back to last season, Borders has now scored in double figures in seven of her last nine contests.
Kyra Gulledge pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds and LeAsia Wright chipped in with 11 points in the loss Thursday. MSU shot a season-low 36.8 percent from the field and 26 percent from beyond the arc in the game. The Racers also shot 7-of-9 at the free-throw line.
The Spartans enter Sunday's contest with a 2-1 record and are coming off a 65-59 victory on the road at Tennessee Tech. UNCG is led by guard Nadine Soliman's 17 points per contest. Soliman is shooting a team-high 41 percent from 3-point range this season and is one of four Spartans averaging 10 points or more this season. UNCG's second-leading scorer is Shanese Harris who has come off the bench in all three games this year. Harris is averaging 10.7 points per contest. Alexis Pitchford leads the team averaging just over seven assists per contest and Te'ja Twitty leads the team at 7.7 rebounds per contest.
Sunday's contest will be the first of back-to-back home games for the Racers prior to Thanksgiving. MSU will also host Lipscomb Nov. 22 at "The Bank" before hitting the road for a pair of contests post-holiday against Ohio (Nov. 26) and East Tennessee State (Nov. 28). The Racers have won five of their last six home games dating back to last season.
