Racers Run Past Berry College In Exhibition

The Murray State men's basketball squad started the 2016-17 season with a 116-71 exhibition win over the Berry College Vikings at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
With the preseason over, The Racers now look forward to opening their 92nd season of collegiate basketball Friday (Nov. 11) at home against Illinois State.
Damarcus Croaker had a big night in leading all scorers with 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting. All 11 Racer players scored, as Gilbert Thomas added 21 points, Jerami Grace 14 and Dondre Griffin 10.
Newcomer Jonathan Stark, who sat out last season as a transfer from Tulane, gave the Racers a 19-6 lead on a 3-point basket with 6:30 before the half. Jachai Taylor pushed the lead to 30 with a minute to go and MSU took a 65-33 lead into the half.
The Racers started the second half on a 13-4 run to take a 78-37 lead with 15:52 remaining and ran off to the win.
Playing against the NCAA Division-3 Vikings, the Racers accomplished a lot in taking their days of practice to the court to play against
someone other than themselves.
MSU forced 26 turnovers and had 28 assists on 43 field goals. MSU shot 58 percent (43-of-73) from the field and hit 7-of-20 3-point attempts for 35 percent. MSU was 23-of-33 from the free throw line for 70 percent. MSU held a 47-32 lead in rebounding.
All 28 players on the rosters got into the game. 17 from Berry and 11 by the Racers.
