The Murray State Racers come home Saturday to host the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky. The 7 p.m. tip is the second part of a doubleheader after the SEMO-MSU women play at 5 p.m.
The Racers (13-12) enter the game with a share of a three-way tie in the Ohio Valley Conference West Division at 7-5.
All Murray State games are heard over free radio on WFGE Froggy 103.7 FM and online at Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com. Neal Bradley is in his 25th season as the Voice of the Racers. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides analysis and commentary. Online video is available at OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
Murray State scored a 70-64 road win Thursday against the SIU Edwardsville Cougars at the Vadalabene Center in Edwardsville, Ill. Wayne Langston tied his career-high 24 points, while Bryce Jones scored 17 and Justin Seymour 14. MSU took a 40-27 halftime lead and pushed it to a game-high lead of 46-29 on a basket by Langston with 15:58 remaining. SIUE dug in and made a run at MSU and got as close as 56-55 with 4:37 left, but the Racers hit 8-of-10 from the free throw line in the final two minutes to seal their third road win of the season.
The win put the Racers into a three-way tie in the loss column in the OVC West Division. MSU is 7-5. UT Martin defeated SEMO at home 77-64 and are 6-5 and Eastern Illinois is 7-5 after losing at home to Austin Peay Wednesday 79-70.
Â
Jeffery Moss was the larger focus of the SIUE defense having scored 26.5 points per game in the last three. Moss finished with eight points and pushed his consecutive games streak of making a 3-point basket to 11. But prior three games, Moss has scored 26.5 points per game. The one-two scoring punch of Moss and Lefty Langston make for a formidable threat against OVC opponents.Â
Â
After the game with SEMO, the Racers have their bye week next week with only a game in Clarksville, Tenn., against Austin Peay on Feb. 20.Â
Including the SEMO game, the Racers have four games remaining in the regular season. The eight-team OVC Tournament is just around the corner at Nashville's Municipal Auditorium (March 2-5).
The Racers will also observe a time of memorial for Racer great Bennie Purcell who passed away Friday at the age of 86. The memorial will happen with about nine minutes on the countdown clock.
