Men's Tennis Earns First Conference Win

The Murray State men's tennis team won their first conference match of the season on Tuesday as they defeated Tennessee State 4-3.
The Racers started strong in the doubles competition. Partners Srdjan Trosic and Javier Villar won their match at the No. 3 doubles 7-5. The next match to finish was at the No. 2 doubles. Partners David Hess and Will True played a close match but ultimately fell 7-5. The doubles point came down to the No. 1 doubles. Partners Marcel Ueltzhoeffer and David Schrott jumped out to an early lead 4-1 on the Tigers. TSU battle back to make trail 4-3. MSU battles back-and-forth with TSU which led to the Racers fighting out the doubles point in a tiebreaker. Schrott and Ueltzhoeffer pulled out the victory as they won 7-6 (3) to give MSU the early 1-0 lead.
In the singles matches, Ueltzhoeffer won his second straight match at the No. 1 singles. He won his first set 6-3 but fell in the second set 3-6. He was able to pull out the win in the third set 6-4. Hess won his match at the No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-1. Villar won the third singles match of the day as he won 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 singles to secure the Racer victory.
Murray State (3-20, 1-7) will travel for the final matches of the season. First, the Racers will play Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Alabama on Friday. Match time has yet to be determined. MSU will then travel to Cookeville, Tennessee to take on Tennessee Tech on Saturday. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
