Racers Excel At Weekend Meets

It was an exciting Friday for the Murray State women's track and field team. Among the personal records set by the Racers at the Virginia Challenge and Missouri State Invitational, Vallery Korir broke the school record in the 10,000 meters for the second time this season. At the Virginia Challenge, Korir finished fifth as she ran 34.27, a time that currently ranks second in the OVC.
Emma Gilmore also set an outdoor personal record at the Virginia Challenge as she ran 2:13 in the 800 meters.
While some Racers were setting personal records at at the Virginia Challenge, other were setting their own personal records at the Missouri State Invitational. Tamdra Lawrence ran a collegiate best 11.72 in the 100 meters. Her time ranks fourth all-time at Murray State and is currently second in the OVC. Jocelyn Payne also ran a personal best in the 100 meters as she ran 12.46. The freshman set another personal record as she finished with a time of 1:05 in the 400 meter hurdles
Fellow freshman Jabreuna Brimlett set many personal records on Friday. Brimlett ran 13.96 in the 100 meter hurdles. Her time ranks fourth all-time at MSU and is currently fifth in the OVC. She set a new personal record in the triple jump as she jumped 11.97 meters (39' 3.25"). Her jump is currently fifth in outdoor program history. Brimlett also set a personal record in the long jump. Her jump of 5.75 meters (18' 10.5") is ninth all-time at Murray State for outdoor track and field.
Emani Griffin finished first in both the 800 meters and the 1,500 meters. She ran a personal best 2:15 in the 800 meters and 4:41 in the 1,500 meters.
Aubrey Main set a personal record in the high jump. The freshman jumped 1.61 meters (5' 3.25") to place third in the event.
Christina Meinhardt set personal records in two of the three events she competed in. She threw 12.96 meters (42' 6.25) in the shot put and 44.61 meters (146' 4") in the hammer throw. Her distance in the shot put is seventh all-time at MSU. Her distance in the hammer throw ranks third all-time in program history.
The 4Â x 400 meter relay composed of Lawrence, Payne, Anna Curlin, and Victoria Yocum ran a season best 3:57 as they finished seventh in the event. The same team also competed in the 4 x 100 meter relay. The team placed first as they ran 48.01 in the event.
The Racers are back in action at the Virginia Challenge on Saturday. Events are set to start at 9 a.m. with the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase.
