Racers Lose Pair to Open Oregon Classic

The Murray State volleyball team lost a pair of matches Friday in the opening day of the Oregon Classic held in Eugene, Ore. The Racers opened the day losing in straight sets to Oregon 25-16, 25-14 and 25-14 and closed with a four-set loss to UC Davis 25-22, 25-20, 18-25 and 25-20.
Against the Ducks (2-2), MSU (3-2) was out-hit .471 to .176 in the loss didn't record a block. UO had seven total blocks in the match. Oregon also had five service aces to the Racers' two.
Rachel Giustino and Scottie Ingram led the Racers offensively with 10 and nine kills, respectively while Kristen Besselsen chipped in with seven kills. Ingram also added 11 digs in the loss while Ellie Lorenz led the team with 18 digs from her libero position. Courtney Radle recorded 23 assists against Oregon.
Against UC Davis (3-2), Ingram led the way on the Racer attack with 19 kills. Ingram also had 14 digs and four assists in the match. Giustino had 11 kills against the Aggies and recorded her first double-double by adding 15 digs. Dacia Brown added 10 kills and hit a team-best .304. Olivia Chatman led MSU with four total blocks and had two service aces.
Lorenz once again had 18 digs to lead the Racers in that category. Kristen Besselsen added 12 and Alex Kaufmann chipped in with 10 of her own from the back row. Radle had a solid all-around match for the Racers as she had five kills, six digs, three blocking assists and had an ace to go along with her team-high 35 assists.
UCD had 14 total blocks in the match to the Racers' five and also had two more aces than the Racers. The Aggies also out-hit MSU .151 to .142.
MSU looks to right the ship to close things out at the classic on Saturday as the Racers face San Diego State at 5:30 p.m., central time.
