The Murray State Racers meet the UT Martin Skyhawks for the 52nd time when the two meet Saturday at 7 p.m. at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.Â
The Racers (11-11, 5-3 OVC) are coming off yet another close game that MSU wasn't able to win a way to win Thursday in a 75-74 defeat at home to Southeast Missouri State.Â
The Skyhawks (15-8, 5-3 OVC) won at Austin Peay 85-79 to pull into a share of first place in the Ohio Valley Conference West Division race. MSU and UTM join SEMO all at 5-3 in league play for a fourth-straight win..
Saturday's game marks the start of the second half of the OVC season as eight of the 16 game schedule have been played.
The day is the second game of a doubleheader at the CFSB Center as the MSU women meet UTM at 5 p.m.
Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley, in his 26th season calling the action. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com has free online streaming audio. Free online streaming video is available at OVCDigitalNetwork.com.Â
The Racers' recent three-game win streak has now been followed by two excruciating losses. At APSU (Jan. 21), MSU lost in overtime 84-81. And then Thursday, MSU had a late lead, but lost it with five-seconds left to SEMO.
Murray State's Jonathan Stark was named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for a fifth time this season earlier in the week. The junior guard from Munford, Tennessee, was also named to the award in the first four weeks of the season. In games last week against EKU and APSU, Â Stark averaged 24 points per game, 2.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists. Many believe Stark is the top newcomer this season in the OVC and if he can keep his pace, Stark will become the 33rd Murray State player in program history to average 20 points per game or more and become the first since Cameron Payne did it in the 2014-15 season.
