The Murray State women will hit the road for the second time in this young season Tuesday as they travel to Nashville to face the Lipscomb Lady Bisons at 6:30 p.m. The Racers are coming off a 98-87 victory over Northern Kentucky Saturday to give Head Coach Rechelle Turner her first collegiate victory.
Ke'Shunan James notched a career-high 37 points in the victory and tied a career-best with nine assists. James also set a new program record in the win as she went a perfect 20-for-20 from the free-throw line, the most made free throws in a single game in MSU history. It also sets the single-game game mark for most free throws made in a game without a miss. The previous record for both marks was 18 held by current MSU assistant Amber Guffey.
As a team, the Racers are fourth in the nation in free-throw percentage, as they currently own an 85.7 percent mark from the line. James meanwhile, leads the nation in scoring at 29.3 points per game. So far, in the new season, James has scored 30 points or more twice in MSU's three games.
The Lady Bisons have already played five games this season, including one similar opponent as MSU, having lost 70-58 Friday at Butler. Loren Cagle, who leads the team in points (14.6), rebounds (6.4) and assists (4.0) per game leads Lipscomb. Cagle is shooting 49 percent from the floor and 45 percent from 3-point range. Emily Kmec is second on the squad averaging 9.8 points per game. For the season, the Lady Bisons are shooting 34 percent from the floor and 27.7 percent from 3-point land. LU is averaging 55.8 points per game and allowing 73.
The last time these two teams met in Nashville, it was a 93-85 win by LU in 2015. Last year at the CFSB Center, the Racers won by 20 in late November.
