The Murray State Racers wrap up a three-game home stand Saturday when they host the Florida A&M Rattlers at the CFSB Center. The 7 p.m. tip marks just the second time FAMU has played the Racers and it's the first time they have visited Murray. The only other meeting happened in 1988. Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley calling the action in his 26th season. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com has free online streaming audio. Free online streaming video is available at OVCDigitalNetwork.com.
The Racers (4-1) have won three in a row after an 85-56 victory Tuesday over Harris-Stowe. Ten different Racers scored in the game as the outcome was never in doubt.Â
FAMU (1-8) has been one of the most traveled teams in all of NCAA D-I with road trips already this season to Arizona, Mississippi, Nevada, North Dakota, Texas and Wisconsin. After the game at Murray State in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Rattlers will visit Georgia, Â Louisiana, New York and Indiana before they start Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play in January. The Rattlers played Wednesday in Austin and lost 82-58 against the Longhorns.
The Racers are 6-0 all-time against teams from the MEAC, but have met only four of the 12 teams in the league. Murray State recently played a Bracket Busters series with Morgan State and won at the CFSB Center in 2010 and then again in Baltimore in 2011. The win at Morgan State was the Racers' second win in what would eventually become a memorable 23-0 start to the 2011-12 season. In the early part of the decade of the 2000's, the Racers had a home-and-home series with Delaware State when Mick Cronin was MSU's coach.
The Racers have matched the 4-1 start they had in Coach Matt McMahon's rookie season of 2015-16 when they started with wins over Harris-Stowe and Middle Tennessee, before dropping a game at Georgia and then scoring wins over Milwaukee and Pepperdine. Â If the Racers can win against FAMU, they'll have their best start since the 2013-14 team started 9-1 during Isaiah Canaan and Ed Daniel's senior season.
As the December games begin, the Racers are second in the OVC in scoring at 86.5 points per game and second in scoring defense allowing only 66.8 points per game.
It's final exam week next week at Murray State. The Racers will take the entire week off before hitting the road for games at Illinois State (Dec. 9) and Saint Louis (Dec. 12). The Racers return home to the CFSB Center to host Marist (Dec. 16) and Auburn (Dec. 19). Check GoRacers.com for information on the December Duos ticket special.
