The Murray State Racers play the second game of a four-game home stand to open the 2018 Ohio Valley Conference regular season Saturday when they host the SIUE Cougars at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky. The game is the second of a women's/men's doubleheader with the women's game at 5 p.m. and the men's game following.
Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley calling the action in his 26th season. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. The Racers are 17-3 all-time against SIUE and are 11-1 at home. Since the Cougars joined the OVC, the Racers are 10-2. MSU has won the last seven games in the series since back-to-back lossesin 2013.
MSU won it's 11th straight OVC opener 80-52 over visiting Eastern Illinois on Thursday. The Racers grabbed the lead with 15:31 remaining in the first half, led by 10 at the intermission, and finished the game on a 19-5 run.Â
OVC Freshman of the Year candidate Ja Morant recorded the second triple-double at MSU since 1984 when he scored 11 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out 14 assists. His 14 assists was a 20-year record at the CFSB Center and was the third best assist game at MSU since 1984. His triple-double was the second for MSU since 1984 after Isacc Miles got one in 2009 against UT Martin. Morant is the 17th OVC player to get a triple-double.
Jonathan Stark and Terrell Miller, Jr., enter the SIUE game with 923 and 728 points as they make their push to become the 43rd and 44th members of the MSU 1000-Point Club.
The Racers are getting it done on both ends of the court. They're first in the OVC with an 81.8 points per game scoring average and they're second in the league in holding opponents to 65.9.Â
After the SIUE game, the Racers are at home next Thursday and Saturday to host Southeast Missouri State on Jan. 4 and Jan. 6. Both games are doubleheader days at the CFSB Center.
