The Murray State Racers (13-13, 7-5 OVC) play their final regular season games this week when they host SIUE and Eastern Illinois on Thursday and Saturday. The SIUE Cougars (5-22, 0-13 OVC) are in town Thursday for a 6 p.m. tip on ESPNU. Robert Lee has the play-by-play and Adam Finkelstein provides analysis.
Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley, in his 26th season calling the action. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com has free online streaming audio. Online streaming video is available at ESPN3.com.
No doubt, the Racers have had an up-and-down season. Never winning more than three games in a row and never losing more than three straight. Last week perfectly illustrated the emotions the team has experienced. A 101-100 overtime loss at Morehead State (Feb. 5) was MSU's ninth loss in close games of six points or less. Then Saturday the Racers showed the awesome potential they have in a 102-58 rout of Austin Peay at the CFSB Center.
With the program's 30th consecutive winning season hanging on a thin line, the Racers can still achieve an OVC West title and a winning season in the final four games in the next two weeks.
If it feels like it's getting late in the season, well, it is. When the Racers and Cougars meet Thursday, the OVC Tournament will be 13 days away.
MSU (7-5) starts the week tied with UT Martin (8-5) in the loss column. The Racers have four games remaining and UTM has three. One of those is the season final at the Elam Center on Feb. 25.
Murray State's Jonathan Stark and Terrell Miller continue to make their case to be included in both the All-OVC and All-OVC Newcomer teams. Stark starts the week atop the scoring list in the league with 21.1 points per game and he ranks second with 5.7 assists per game. Miller is seventh in scoring (16.4ppg) and seventh in rebounding (7.9rpg).
In the first meeting this season with SIUE (Jan. 14), the Racers came away with a 67-59 win. It marked MSU's only back-to-back road wins this season after they won at Eastern Illinois (Jan. 12) 83-72. EIU comes to MSU Saturday for a 7 p.m. game on Senior Day.
