Murray State looks to extend its winning streak to a season-high four games as the Racers host SIU Edwardsville Saturday at 5 p.m., at "The Bank". The Racers are coming off a 66-57 victory on Wednesday against Eastern Illinois.
The Racers had a pair of players record a double-double in the same game for the second time this season in the victory as Bria Bethea scored a team-best 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her second double-double of the year. Kyra Gulledge was the other Racer with a double-double as she scored a season-high 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Gulledge also made an impact defensively with two blocks and two steals.
In the previous meeting with the Cougars back in January, Ke'Shunan James and LeAsia Wright led MSU with 23 points each in the victory. James also notched 12 boards, four assists and four steals in the first meeting.
Since being inserted into the starting lineup against UT Martin, Bethea has been a force for the Racers in the past six games as she's averaging a team-best 18.5 points per game over that stretch and is shooting 51 percent from the floor. Bethea is also shooting 47 percent from 3-point range and 85 percent at the free-throw line. Bethea has two double-doubles since becoming a starter, is averaging 5.7 rebounds per contest and has also scored 20 points or more three times.
The Cougars have a balanced offensive attack with three players averaging in double figures. Donshel Beck leads SIUE in both scoring and rebounding as she averages 14.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Lauren White, who is the only Cougar to have started in all 27 games this season, averages 12 points per game and Nakiah Bell is third on the squad averaging 10.2 points per. Bell also leads the team and is amongst the league leaders averaging 4.3 assists per game. Gwen Adams is SIUE's main weapon off the bench as she averages 9.1 points per game and is hitting an incredible 93 percent of her free-throw attempts. The Cougars are shooting just under 40 percent from the floor as a team and 33.7 percent from beyond the arc.
