The Murray State women's basketball team returns to the CFSB Center to play the first of three consecutive home games at "The Bank" on Saturday at 6 p.m., as the Racers welcome first place Belmont. MSU is coming off a 73-59 loss Wednesday at Morehead State.
The Racers shot a season-low 29.4 percent in the loss to the Eagles. Ke'Shunan James led MSU with a game-high 19 points in the contest while Bria Bethea, in her second start of the season, was the other Racer in double figures as she added 13 points. Kyra Gulledge grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in the loss against Morehead.
James, who continues to lead the OVC in scoring at 19.5 points per game, is six points shy of passing Stephanie Minor for ninth place on the all-time career-scoring list in program history. At her current pace, James would move into eighth on the all-time list by the end of the regular season.
MSU is looking to snap a current five-game skid against the Bruins and is trying for its first win in the series since 2000. Belmont has won all four contests against the Racers since joining the OVC in the 2012-13 season.
The Racers, who are 7-2 at home this season, play five of their final seven games to close the season at the CFSB Center. MSU is 2-1 in conference games in Murray this year.
The first-place Bruins enter Saturday's contest leading the league in scoring average at 76.1 points per game and are third in the OVC in points allowed at 65.2 per. Belmont has used the same starting five in all but one game this season and enter the game riding a 12-game winning streak. Kylee Smith leads the Bruins in scoring as she averages 14.6 points per game. Darby Maggard, who is arguably the top point guard in the league, is averaging 13.6 points and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 48 percent overall and an OVC-leading 47 percent from 3-point range. Center Sally McCabe is the other Bruin averaging in double figures at 11.7 points per game and leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per contest.
