Racers Blank WKU In Exhibition Win

The Murray State women's soccer team finished their exhibition weekend at Cutchin Field with a 2-0 win over the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky Sunday in Murray, Kentucky.
Racer newcomer Kayla Travis made her debut during Sunday's match and took full advantage of her first collegiate minutes. The freshman knocked in a deflection in the 36th minute that gave the Racers a 1-0 lead that held until halftime.
In the second half, neither team could muster any offense for nearly the entire stanza. However, with just four seconds remaining in the match, Karsyn Hasch found the back of the net on a pass from Harriet Withers to extend the Racers' lead to 2-0 in the 90th minute.
Murray State outshot Western Kentucky 17-9 in the contest, allowing only two shots in the second half. Goalkeeper Alex Steigerwald had five saves in the combined shutout before Kaylyn Telfair relieved her for the final minutes.
In their two exhibition matches this season, the Racers outscored their opponents 7-0 and outshot them, 42-10. Of those 42 shots by Murray State, 20 were on target, while only five of their opponents 10 shots went on goal
The Racers will officially open their 2017 season Sunday when they host Marshall. Kickoff at Cutchin Field is scheduled for 2 p.m.
