Nashville, Tenn – The Racers earned their third Missouri Valley Conference point with a defensive battle that ended in a draw at Belmont.
Saturday's match marked the fourth draw of the season for Murray State (5-4-4), all of which have come in the last six contests.
"Defensively, we looked really good," head coach Matt Lodge said. "Better than we've looked in a long time. The MVC is tough — it's about grinding out results. We're picking up points, but we need to start picking up three points on the road and three points at home."
Despite taking only seven shots, the Racers outshot the Bruins (3-3-6) 7-6 on the day.
After a tightly contested first half, the Racers' back line dominated the second, holding Belmont to just one shot in the final 45 minutes.
"I think the first 15 minutes, they kind of dominated us," Lodge said. "Then I made a change of shape, and from there we took over the game."
Belmont entered the match with the highest RPI ranking in the MVC, despite a 3-3-6 record.
"I think that's the best Belmont team I've seen here in a while," Lodge said. "They're big, they're physical, they're direct."
Murray State returns home for a two-match homestand, hosting Southern Illinois and Evansville as the MVC regular season nears its midway point.
