The Murray State women hit the road for the first time in nearly a month and for the first time in conference play Thursday as they travel to face Jacksonville State at 5:30 p.m. The Racers are looking to snap their current three-game skid.
MSU has had success in the series all time with JSU, winning 16 of the 20 meetings overall, however, the Gamecocks have won two of the last three meetings. The Racers are 8-1 all-time at Jacksonville State and won 71-64 last season at Mathews Coliseum. In that matchup, Ke'Shunan James led four Racers in double figures with 18 points while Bria Bethea added 10.
The Racers are coming off a 97-80 loss Saturday against UT Martin at the CFSB Center. Brianna Crane recorded a career-high 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting in the loss as the Skyhawks hit 13 3-pointers in the contest, the most 3-pointers given up by MSU in a game this season.
The Gamecocks are a deep and well-balanced team with 11 players who are averaging more than 10 minutes per game and six that are scoring five points or more per contest. Rayven Pearson leads Jacksonville State with 9.4 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game, a mark that ranks second in the OVC. Gretchen Morrison is the only Gamecock to have started in all 15 games this season and is averaging 8.3 points per contest. Taylor Hawks leads JSU with 38 assists this year.
As a team, JSU is averaging 64 points per game and is holding its opponents to a conference-leading 56.7 points per. The Gamecocks lead the league in opponent field goal percentage (37.1 percent) but are 10th in shooting (38 percent) and last in free throw percentage (60.8).
Thursday's contest kicks off a four-game road swing for the Racers, as they will also travel to Tennessee Tech Saturday. Next week, MSU will hit Nashville to face Belmont and Tennessee State.
