For the second week, the Racers are trying to split a road weekend in the rough and tumble world that is Ohio Valley Conference basketball. The Murray State Racers will try to win on the home court of the Tennessee State Tigers Saturday in a 7:30 p.m. tip at the Gentry Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
The game is the 71st in the series between the two since their first meeting way back in 1983.Â
MSU has won eight of the last 10 and will be looking for their first win at the Gentry Center since 2015. TSU won there in 2016, but the Racers won this meeting at home in 2017. Since 2008, the Racers have won 15-of-18 against the Tigers.
Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley calling the action in his 26th season. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com has free online streaming audio. The game is also offered up free on OVCDigitalNetwork.com with streaming video.
The Racers lost at Belmont Thursday night by a score of 79-72 in a game where they had a four-point lead at the intermission, but lost it for good with 12:20 remaining. Â Led by Jonathan Stark's 19 points, the Racers also got the 17th career double-double from Terrell Miller, Jr., on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jalen Dupree had a career-high 13 rebounds to go with 12 points for his second MSU double-double, while Byron Hawkins came off the bench to score 15 points.
TSU handed Austin Peay at 70-56 defeat on Thursday night which further tightened. As play begins Saturday, Belmont leads the OVC at 6-1, with Murray State, Jacksonville State, Tennessee Tech and Austin Peay all in second place at 5-2. Â The next tier includes SEMO, TSU, Eastern Illinois and SIUE at 3-4.
After the Saturday game at TSU, the Racers come home next week to the CFSB Center for games with Morehead State (Jan. 25) and Eastern Kentucky (Jan. 27). The Morehead State game will be televised by ESPNU at 6 p.m. and the new video/scoreboard at the arena will also be unveiled.
