The Murray State women's basketball team concludes its Nashville doubleheader Saturday night at 5:30 p.m., as the Racers take on Tennessee State at the Gentry Center. MSU is coming off a hard-fought 70-65 loss Wednesday at Belmont.
MSU pushed the OVC-leading Bruins the entire game and led for much of the contest. Bria Bethea led the Racers with 20 points and hit four 3-pointers in the loss while Ke'Shunan James added 19 points, nine rebounds and three steals on the night.
The league's leading scorer and one of the top scorers in the nation in Tia Wooten who is averaging 20.7 points per game lead Tennessee State. Wooten also leads TSU in rebounding at 8.1 per. Wooten and Maxine Beard are the only two Tigers to have started in every game this season. Taylor Roberts is second on the team in scoring at 14.6 points per game, primarily off the bench and is second on the squad in rebounding at 6.9 boards per contest.
As a team, the Tigers are scoring 67.2 points per and are allowing 74.3 per. TSU enters Saturday's contest having lost three consecutive games.
The last time the Racers and Tigers met in Nashville was in 2016 when TSU won 69-58. Last season, MSU won 80-72 at the CFSB Center in the conference opener. In that win, James led the Racers with 25 points while Jasmine Borders added 17.
The Racers have lost each their last two games on the road against the Tigers and are 14-14 all-time in the series away from home.
