Murray State women's basketball opens the month of February with a pivotal road week beginning Thursday night at 5:15 as the Racers travel to face Southeast Missouri at the Show Me Center. MSU, who currently sits in eighth in the OVC standings, sits a game behind the Redhawks.
The Racers are coming off a 75-68 victory Saturday over Eastern Kentucky at the CFSB Center. Ke'Shunan James led MSU with 25 points in the win while Bria Bethea added 19 and hit a trio of 3-pointers. The Racers went 26-of-28 at the free-throw line against the Colonels, shooting a season-high 92.9 percent clip at the line.
For her efforts against the Colonels and earlier in the week against Morehead State, James was named the ADIDAS Co-OVC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, her fourth honor of the season and 11th of her career. James averaged 29.5 points, 10 rebounds and three steals per game in the two contests last week.
James is now just 11 points shy of becoming the third student-athlete in program history to reach 2,000 career points, joining Ashley N. Hayes (2005-09) and Sheila Smith (1985-89) on that list. James is also just 19 points from passing Hayes for second on the all-time scoring list.
James and Bethea are the top scoring tandem in the league so far this season as James ranks second in scoring at 20.8 points per game and averages 22.5 in conference-only games. Bethea, meanwhile ranks fifth overall in scoring with 16 points per and is fourth in league play averaging 17.5 per contest.
Tesia Thompson leads Southeast Missouri in scoring this season, averaging 13 points per game. Thompson is second on the team in rebounding at 5.3 per contest. Adrianna Murphy is second on the Redhawks averaging 11.5 points per game and is second in the OVC in assists at 5.2 per game. Deja Jones leads the squad in rebounding at six per game. Ashton Luttrull, who scored a career-high 23 points in the first meeting with MSU, is third in scoring at 10.6 per. As a team, SEMO is averaging and allowing 62.6 points per game.
