The Murray State women look to get back on track in conference play Saturday as UT Martin comes to the CFSB Center for a 5 p.m., tip. The Racers are looking to snap a seven-game home skid against the Skyhawks. UTM swept the season series last year. In the 2016-17 season finale, MSU lost on the road 83-82, a loss that kept the Racers from advancing to the OVC Tournament.
The Racers are coming off an 84-75 loss Thursday to Southeast Missouri. Bria Bethea led MSU in the loss with 18 points while Jasmine Borders and Leah Richardson added 14 each. The 14 points from Richardson are a career-high for her. Richardson also added three steals and hit four 3-pointers in the loss. Ke'Shunan James tallied her sixth double-double of the season in the contest as she scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
In her last five contests, dating back to the final two non-conference games of the season, James is averaging 21.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor and has notched three double-doubles.
All-OVC guard Kendall Spray's 16.8 points per game and 58 3-pointers made on the season lead the Skyhawks. Spray's 45 percent from long range is tied for the league lead in that category. Spray, along with Chelsey Perry are the only two who have started in all 15 games this season for UT Martin. Emanye Robertson is the lone other Skyhawk averaging in double figures this year with 12.5 points per game. Robertson also has a team-best 63 assists this season.
Murray High product Maddie Waldrop leads UTM in rebounding with 5.7 boards per game off the bench. As a team, the Skyhawks are scoring 70.5 points per game and shooting 43 percent from the field. MSU is 18-18 all-time at home against the Skyhawks.
Saturday's contest closes MSU's four-game home stand to open OVC play this season. Beginning next week, the Racers will play four consecutive road contests, beginning Jan. 11 at Jacksonville State.
