The Murray State Racers (3-1) return home to the friendly confines of the CFSB Center Saturday when they host the Prairie View A&M Panthers (1-6) at 7 p.m. The game marks their first meeting since 1994. The day is a doubleheader day at The Bank with the MSU women's team hosting Alabama A&M at 5 p.m.
Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley calling the action in his 28th season. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com has free online streaming audio. The game can also be seen online at ESPN3 and SEC Network Plus  with Eli Gold, Coach Wimp Sanderson and Meggi Hetzel calling the action.
The Racers are 3-0 all-time against PVAM with the last meeting a Murray State win (116-97) in Dayton at the US Air Classic in 1994. MSU also won at home in 1991 and at Prairie View, Texas in 1991.
Through the first four games of the season, Ja Morant has set his career-high in scoring in each of MSU's games against NCAA D-I competition. On opening night (Nov. 10) he scored 26 points and then he topped it against Missouri State (Nov. 24) with 29 and did even better at Alabama Monday with 38 points. Morant was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his triple-double performance against Missouri State. Morant has also been honored as part of to of the biggest awards CollegeInsider.com gives each March. He's on the watch lists for the Lute Olsen Award, which goes to their National Player of the Year in all of NCAA D-I and the Lou Henson Award for the Mid-Major Player of the Year.Â
The Racers pushed their home in streak to 12 (Nov. 24) against Missouri State 77-66. The current run started shortly after the Racers lost at home last December against Auburn. It's the best home win streak since MSU won 18-straight from November of 2014 to December of 2015 under Coach Steve Prohm and Matt McMahon. The Racers are 37-10 in the four seasons of home games in the Coach Matt McMahon era. MSU still has a while to get close to the all-time record of 47. The Racers had the longest streak in the nation when it ended in 2000. It closed out old Racer Arena starting in 1996 under Coach Mark Gottfried and opened what was then called the Regional Special Events Center (now CFSB Center) before it was halted by SEMO in 2000 when Tevester Anderson was coach. In their 21st season of basketball at the CFSB Center, the Racers are 247-44 (.848) all-time in the arena and 101-17 (.854) against non-conference opponents. the Racers are an amazing 92-17 (.842) Â on their home floor in the last eight seasons.
The Racers' next home game (Dec. 15) will be a special day in which Coach Anderson will return so we can honor him for his great career at MSU as the Racers host the team he coached after the Racers, Jackson State. With next week being finals week at Murray State, the Racers will not play again until Saturday (Dec. 8) at Middle Tennessee. MSU stays on the road (Dec. 12) with a game in Carbondale against the Southern Illinois Salukis before coming home to host JSU and Evansville (Dec. 18).
