Relentless Racers Impress at #10 Tennessee
12/28/2018 10:06:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Fighting right down to the last whistle, a very game Murray State women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with the 10th-ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers, before eventually falling to the perennial power, 98-77, Friday night at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville.
The Racers put up 77 points against a defense than only gave up an average of 61.7 heading into the game. Twenty of MSU's 77 point came from its best free throw effort of the season, one that saw the Racers go 20-for-23 at the charity stripe. Another key to MSU's arguably best performance of the season was its ability to force the Lady Vols into 23 turnovers, two more than committed by the Racers.
Evelyn Adebayo scored a career-high 28 points as she went 10-for-18 from the floor and a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line. In addition, the junior transfer was 1-for-3 from 3-point range and had five rebounds, three steals and an assist. Janika-Griffith Wallace added a season-high 14 points for the Racers, while Brianna Crane notched her third-straight double-digit scoring game with 12. Lex Mayes rounded out four Racers with 10-plus points on the night with 11.
With its non-conference slate completed, the Racers now turn their attention to OVC play which begins Thursday night at CFSB Center against Morehead State.
