Racers Run Past Brescia For 8th Straight Home Win

The Murray State Racers scored a 114-48 win Saturday over the Brescia Bearcats as they pushed their home win streak in the CFSB Center to eight.
The Racers (2-1) get back on their home court in Murray, Kentucky, Tuesday when they welcome regional rival Southern Illinois for a 7 p.m. tip at The Bank.
Chico Carter, Jr., led eight MSU players to score in double-figures with 20 points to go with nine assists. The freshman guard was 7-of-9 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
MSU's Demond Robinson tallied 16 points, while the Racers got 14 points from KJ Williams and 13 points from Anthony Smith as he had a career-high 14 rebounds. Darnell Cowart added 13 points and the Racers got 11 points each from DaQuan Smith and Tevin Brown and 10 points from Devin Gilmore.
Leading 36-16 13 minutes into the contest, the Racers held the lead at the half 57-29 and outscored the Bearcats 57-19 in the second half.
MSU shot 71 percent from the field in the second and half and managed 64 percent for the game on 42-of-66. Brescia hot 7-of-29 in the second half for 22 percent and was 17-of-62 for the game for 27 percent.

After wowing fans inside the CFSB Center in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2008, 2017 and 2019, the worldwide sensation Harlem Globetrotters have announced they will return to Murray State University for a seventh time on Jan. 15, 2020. - The Racers pushed their home win streak to eight with the win. MSU's last loss at the CFSB Center was last January to Belmont.
- MSU's 66-point win was pushing the CFSB Center record for the biggest winning margin in the 22 seasons in the arena. MSU defeated Spalding last season by 70 (103-36).
- MSU's 114 points tonight was four off the arena record of 118 against Brescia in 2017. MSU's all-time mark for single-game scoring took place against Campbellsville in 1994 when the Racers scored 138.
- The Racers had the rare night of identical points in each half (57).
- The Racers shared the ball tonight with 29 assists with only 11 turnovers.
- Anthony Smith set career free throw numbers tonight with 11-of-14. He also set his career-high with 14 rebounds.
- Tuesday's game marks another chapter in the regional rivalry series between the Racers and the Southern Illinois Salukis. The Racers and Salukis have each won 18 times with MSU winning last year's contest in Carbondale 80-52.
- MSU basketball great, DT Mayes (1996-98) was part of the class of 2019 that was honored at halftime of tonight's game. The 2019 class (the 37th in the history of the HOF) of nine of five men and four women includes Coach Connie Keasling (1984-87, 1992-11) of women's tennis, football's Rob Hart (1995-99) and Austin Lane (2006-09), Stevon Roberts (1990-93) and Siebert Straughn (1989-02) of men's track & field. MSU women's track & field sprinter Alexis Love (2009-13) is also part of the 2019 class along with De'Teri Mayes (1996-98) of men's basketball, Morgan Hicks (2001-04) of rifle and women's track & field and basketball pioneer Pat Ward-Seib (1967-71).
