Racers vs Salukis For The 37th Time
One of the top regional rivalries in college basketball finds the Southern Illinois Salukis traveling to Murray, Kentucky, Tuesday to meet the Murray State Racers at the CFSB Center. The 7 p.m. tip at The Bank finds MSU with an eight-game home streak.
Murray State and Southern Illinois are meeting for the 36th time since the first tilt happened in 1929. It's always a great game to play in the pre-conference season because fans of each team have a short distance (116 miles) to travel. The Racers have won the last two meetings and can get three in a row for the first time in the series with a win Tuesday.
Murray State Against Missouri ValleyÂ
The Racers are again this season taking on more than one team from the Missouri Valley Conference. Last season, the Racers were 3-0 against Evansville, SIU and Missouri State and are scheduled to play them again this season. The Racers have met every team from the MVC at least once with the exception of Northern Iowa.
Home Sweet Home - The BankÂ
The last time the Racers lost a game home was last January to the Belmont Bruins.Â
The Racers are 262-44 (.853) all-time as they play the 22nd season in the arena and 108-17 (.850) against non-OVC opponents. MSU is 4-3 all-time at the CFSB Center against SIU. The Salukis played in the first game of the CFSB Center in 1998. Bruce Weber coached SIU and Tevester Anderson coached the Racers. Â Restless Heart lead singer Larry Stewart sang the National Anthem and the Racers won the game 65-62. The Racers are 51-11 at home in the Matt McMahon era.
Game 3 Wrap - Murray State 114 Brescia 48
Inbetween tough games with Tennessee and SIU, the Racers had a tune up game with Bresca that they won 114-48. MSU's Demond Robinson tallied 16 points, while the Racers got 14 points from KJ Williams and 13 points from Anthony Smith as he had a career-high 14 rebounds. Darnell Cowart added 13 points and the Racers got 11 points each from DaQuan Smith and Tevin Brown and 10 points from Devin Gilmore. Leading 36-16 13 minutes into the contest, the Racers held the lead at the half 57-29 and outscored the Bearcats 57-19 in the second half. Through the early part of the season, the Racers are first in the Ohio Valley Conference in field goal percentage defense at .357. MSU is second in offensive field goal percentage at .512.
Racers Set For Second Appearance In Gulf Coast Showcase
Thanksgiving week finds the Racers playing three games at the Gulf Showcase in Estero, Florida. MSU participated and made a run to the title game four years ago in this event. MSU's first opponent (Nov. 25) is La Salle and their second game will come against either Wright State or Weber State (Nov. 26). MSU's final game (Nov. 27) will be against Drake, Northeastern, Miami (OH), or South Alabama.
