Home Win Streak On The Line vs KSU Owls
When the Murray State Racers host the Kennesaw State Owls Monday, they'll be trying extend their home win streak at the at the CFSB Center to 11. Since their last loss to Belmont last January, the Racers haven't tasted defeat at home. MSU carries a 264-45 mark in 22 seasons at The Bank, which has produced a winning percentage of 85 percent.Â
Racers vs A-Sun
The Racers meet Kennesaw State for the first time in Monday's game and it marks the 10th game for MSU against the current lineup of the Atlantic Sun Conference. MSU is 7-2 against the A-Sun's current membership. The closest A-Sun school to Murray is Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn. The Racers had a three-year run against the Bisons as they won three games between 2011-13. In 1980, Coach Ron Greene's Racers played at Jacksonville in the National Invitation Tournament and won there in 1980.
Coach Amir Abdur-Rahim Returns To MSU
The Owls are coached by former MSU graduate assistant and assistant coach Amir Abdur-Rahim (2006-11). He was part of Coach Billy Kennedy's rebuilding of the Racer program that led to the amazing 2009-10 season in which the Racers won 29 games and the program's fi rst NCAA win in 22 years. Amir left MSU with Kennedy when he became head coach at Texas A&M
Racers Rout Middle Tennessee
The Racers responded from back-to-back losses Saturday (Dec. 7) with a dominating 85-52 win the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders as MSU pushed its home winning streak to 10. MSU's offensive attack produced their highest total score this season against an NCAA D-I team and their 51-point first half was a season-best. KJ Williams led five Racers in double-figure scoring with a 22-point night on 9-of-11 shooting. Jaiveon Eaves scored his career-high in back-to-back games with 19 points and Tevin Brown and Demond Robinson each added 11 points. Anthony Smith scored 10 points and DaQuan Smith had a game-high nine assists.
Eaves Making Impact From Starting Lineup
Senior guard, Jaiveon Eaves, is beginning to hit his stride as his role becomes more defined. In MSU's last two games, Eaves scored 14 points at Missouri State (Dec. 3) with six rebounds. He came back against Middle Tennessee (Dec. 7) with 19 points. Both games set career highs for him. In the two games, Eaves averaged 16.5ppg and 4.0 rebounds. He hit 52 percent from the field and 44 percent from the 3-point line. Eaves is this week's guest on the Runnin' with the Racers Podcast.
Racers Take on Evansville At Ford Center
Murray State's final game before Christmas is against the Evansville Purple Aces at the Ford Center in Indiana. It will mark MSU's fourth game this season with Missouri Valley squads after a win over Southern Illinois and losses to Missouri State and Drake. The Ford Center is the site of the 2020 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament (March 4-7).
