The Murray State Racers (28-4) move into the second round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday when they face the Florida State Seminoles (28-7) in a 6:10 ET tip at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
Froggy 103 (WFGS 103.7 FM) airs every MSU game with "Voice of the Racers" Neal Bradley calling the action in his 28th season. Former MSU assistant coach Kenny Roth provides commentary. Froggy103.com and GoRacers.com has free online streaming audio. The game can also be seen on TNT.
The Racers have won their last 12 and are one step from the NCAA Sweet 16 for the fourth time in program history. The Racers first won a game in the tournament in 1988, but lost a close game to eventual national champion Kansas. MSU had to wait 22 years until 2010 to get the chance again after they beat Vanderbilt on Danero Thomas' buzzer shot. MSU lost to Butler in a two-point game two days later. In 2012, the Racers were a No. 6 seed and beat Colorado State, but lost to Marquette in the second round.
The Murray State Racers made history Thursday when they posted their fourth victory in the NCAAs and all-star Ja Morant did as well by becoming the 12th player to record a triple-double in the NCAA tournament with 17 points, 16 assists and 11 rebounds. Even though he's only played 64 games at MSU, Morant will set a new career record at MSU with four more. MSU Hall of Famer Don Mann (1985-89) has had the record of 531 for the last 30 seasons.
Leading 42-35 at the half, the Racers started the second half on a 7-0 run and eventually had a 20-point gap with 11:20 remaining.
Tevin Brown led Murray State in the game with 19 points including finishing the game at 5-for-9 from beyond-the-arc after going 4-for-4 in the first half. KJ Williams followed with 16, while Shaq Buchanan added 14 and Darnell Coward had a near double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
The Racers fourth win in the NCAA Tournament was also their largest margin of victory in their four wins. MSU beat Marquette by 19 points Thursday as they bested the 17-point win against Colorado State (58-41) in 2012. With Belmont's win Wednesday over Temple, the Ohio Valley Conference has two wins in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1971.
In the now 17 appearances for the Racers in the NCAA Tournament, Illinois is their most visited state with games in Evanston (1964), Carbondale (1969) and Chicago (2002). MSU has been a state twice in two instances including Ohio (2004, 2006), California (2010, 2018). MSU's single-visit states are Nebraska (1988), Tennessee (1990), Georgia (2002), Wisconsin (1992), Florida (1995), North Carolina (1997), Oklahoma (1998), Indiana (1999) and of course Kentucky (2012). In all, the Racers have played in 13 different states.
