The Murray State track and field team traveled to Gulf Shores, Alabama to compete in the Island Meet, Friday. They dominated the day as they won 16 events en route to a team victory.
"Today's meet was a good end to our spring break," said head coach Adam Kiesler. "All around we got exactly what we needed from this meet. The schedule allowed us to get a lot of events in during a short period of time. The field event did a great job of competing and coming away with numerous lifetime bests and the throws group had another great weekend as well. We look forward to the meat of the season coming up and putting some good marks on the OVC list."
Antoinetta Avant was a three-time winner on the day as she won the 100m hurdles (14.68), the triple jump (11.75m, PR), and was part of the winning 4x100 relay team.
Tamdra Lawrence and Daijah White joined Avant as three-time winners on the day Lawrence won the 200m and White was first in the 100m and were both part of the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams
Emma Creviston also won multiple individual events as she finished first in the 800m (2:25:05) and 1500m (4:50.96), setting personal bests in both.
Reigning OVC Track Athlete of the Week Hilary McAdam won twice, Friday, as well, winning the 400m and 4x400 relay.
Other winners on the track for the Racers included Jaysha Carter in the 400m hurdles (1:10.05, PR), D'Myia Thornton in the 4x400 relay, and Rachel Hagans in the 4x100 relay.
In the field events, the Racers swept all three jumping events as Aubrey Main won the high jump (1.64m), Allison Woerner won the long jump (5.06m), and Avant won the triple jump.
In the throws, the Racers won three of four events with Hannah Johnson winning the discus (35.83m, PR), Destiny Carey winning the shot put (13.23m), and Rachel Gootee winning the hammer throw (47.47m).
Finally, in the pole vault, Brooke Misukonis tied a school record, which had stood by itself since 2011, with a vault of 3.60m to claim the event.
The Racers are back in action next weekend when they will be competing in three different meets. Some athletes will go to Austin, Texas for the Texas Relays, some will go to Texas State for the Bobcat Invite, and some will go to SEMO for the Joey Haines Invite.
