The Game
The Murray State women's basketball team will take to the floor at the CFSB Center for the first time this season Tuesday night in a matchup with regional rival Evansville. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and WNBS 97.9 FM.
Scouting The Purple Aces
The Purple Aces went 3-26 and 0-18 in Missouri Valley play last season in Matt Ruffing's fourth full season as head coach. The good news for Evansville is that on top of returning eight letterwinners, it also returns all five starters from last year. Abby Feit and Lola Reed led the Purple Aces in scoring last season at 13.7 and 10.9 points per game, respectively, while Feit also led the team in rebounds with 8.4 per game.
Last Time vs. Evansville
The Purple Aces will enter the CFSB Center Tuesday looking for some revenge after last season's game in Evansville. The Racers rallied from four down with 43 seconds left to play to top UE, 61-59, on a steal and a last second layup by Macey Turley.
Credit Where Credit Due
After her double-double Wednesday, which included seven rebounds in the fourth quarter, Katelyn Young as named as the first OVC Freshman of the Week for the 2020-21 season.
Double Debut
With 14 points and 14 rebounds against UK, freshman Katelyn Young became the first true freshman in known statistical history (dating back to 1997-98) to notch a double-double in her collegiate debut.
Home Openers
Murray State is 26-23 all-time in season openers and 13-9 in openers at the CFSB Center. The Racers are 2-1 in home openers under Rechelle Turner and 3-3 in openers against Evansville.
Season Openers
The Racers opened their 55th season of women's basketball at Kentucky on Nov. 25. With the loss, the Racers are now 24-31 all-time in season openers and 0-2 against Kentucky.
