Saturday Add - Racers Host Illinois State at CFSB Center
Not originally on the 2020-21 schedule, the Murray State Racers added a home game with the Illinois State Redbirds for Saturday at the CFSB Center at 5 p.m. in Murray, Kentucky. The Racers lead the all-time series with ISU 4-1 as the two recently completed a four-year series from 2014-17 in which Murray State won three times. The last meeting was at Redbird Arena in Bloomington where the Racers won 78-72. The Racers have won 22 in a row at "The Bank".
Murray State Against The Missouri Valley Conference
The game with ISU marks an added game for the Racers against a team from the Missouri Valley Conference. MSU plays at Southern Illinois (Dec. 11). Over the years, the Racers have played every MVC team with the exception of Northern Iowa and have played Evansville and SIU the most with 38 and 37 games.Â
The Greenville Connection
The Racers and Redbirds have at least one thing in common, they both defeated high-scoring NCAA D-III Greenville this season by scoring north of 170 points. The Racers defeated Greenville at home last Sunday by a score of 173-95 and ISU had their way this week 177-108. Several team and conference records were broken in the process by both the Racers and Redbirds. The Racers had an NCAA record 45 assists.

Tevin Brown Closes on MSU 1000 Point Club
Tevin Brown needs 17 points to become the 47th member of the MSU 1000-Point Club. He is looking to join Racer Greats Ja Morant, Terrell Miller and Jonathan Stark as recent Racers to join the club. Coming into the Illinois State game, Brown has 983 career points in 67 games.
OVC Clash Of Titans Coming Soon
Because of the adjusted OVC schedule for 2020-21, the Racers will meet rival Austin Peay twice before Christmas for the first time in school history. Game one is at the CFSB Center (Dec, 8), with the second in Clarksville (Dec. 21). MSU and APSU shared the top spot in the OVC Preseason Poll. The game starts the Battle of the Border, the annual bragging rights series encompassing all sports. The traveling trophy currently resides at Murray State after winning the competition in the first three years of the series.
MSU 1000-Point Club History
When Tevin Brown scores 13 points, he will be the 47th player to reach 1,000 career points at Murray State. The first two Racers to start the 1000-Point Club were Garrett Beshear and Bennie Purcell who joined three days a part in February 1952. The most recent Racer was Ja Morant in February of 2019. The fastest to 1000 points was Jonathan Stark (2018) and De/Teri Mayes (1998) who each did it in only 48 games. The slowest was Cedric Gumm, who needed 166 games to reach the club in 1994. However, it's like a home run in baseball, nobody remembers how far it went, just that it went over the fence! MSU's 1000-Point Club is a list of Racer greats including 00 that are in the MSU Hall of Fame.
