Scouting The Sycamores
This year's Sycamore squad looks and feels very similar to this year's Racer team. Like MSU, 100-percent of the Sycamores' roster has two or less years of DI experience and also like the roster they have already impressed against a Power 5 team and picked up a convincing win against a fellow mid-major. In its opener, Indiana State eventually fell to Illinois, 68-49, but got 19 points off the bench from Caitlin Anderson and 13 boards from Jamyra McChristine.
In their next game at Detroit Mercy, the Sycamores got six 3-pointers from Essy Latu, who finished with a team-high 21 points, and like the Racers against Evansville, they had five players in double-digits in their 84-79 win over the host Titans. Latu currently leads Indiana State in scoring with 13.0 points per game, followed by Anderson at 12.5. On the boards, McChristine leads the way with 10.5 rebounds per game, to go along with 8.0 points.
Last Time vs. Indiana State
A horse race at the beginning, Murray State was able to pull away late in last season's meeting at The Bank. The Racers were able to ice the win in the final 2:30 by going a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Macey Turley and Lex Mayes had 23 and 21 points, respectively, for MSU, while Jamyra McChristine, who also had 14 rebounds, and Sommer Pitzer had 15 and 13 for Indiana State. All four players of those players will return Friday for round two.
Youth Movement
Murray State and Indiana State are two of just three NCAA DI programs this season, along with Ole Miss, that are entirely comprised of players with two or fewer years of DI experience. For Murray State, the Racers have been led by two freshmen in scoring in each of its games so far. Katelyn Young had 14 points and 14 rebounds against Kentucky, while Hannah McKay had 13 points versus Evansville.
Send In The Reserves
Last season, the Racer bench averaged just 11.5 points per game last season and so far this season, they have greatly improved on that number and are contributing 21.5 points through two games this season, including 33 against Evansville.
Deep Analysis
Another indicator of the Racers trending upwards this season are their averages in "analysis" stats. So far this season MSU is either keeping pace with or has surpassed last year's total in all four categories. The biggest increase so far, thanks mostly to the increased height of this year's team has been in points in the paint where the Racers have picked up 8.6 points per game.

Turner vs. The Hoosier State
Now in her fourth season, teams from Indiana have played a major part of Rechelle Turner's non-conference schedules. The Racers have gone 5-3 against teams from Indiana under Turner and 1-2 in game played in the Hoosier state.
