Racers Cruise Past Saint Peter's for First Win

The Murray State baseball team picked up their first win of the season Friday afternoon with a 12-0 victory over Saint Peter's at Reagan Field.
Trevor McMurray was phenomenal on the mound, pitching seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts while allowing just four hits and one walk. In 12.0 innings pitched, this season, McMurray has yet to surrender a run.
"He really set the tone," said head coach Dan Skirka. "I told pitchers after the game that if they want to learn how to pitch, there it is. He just attacked, mixed his pitches and let our defense play. It was great to see."
On offense, every Racer starter had at least a hit or an RBI. Jordan Holly went 2-4 with four RBI while Ryan Perkins stayed hot with two hits and three runs batted in. Jake Slunder also added three hits and three runs scored.
Perkins put the Racers on the board early as he drove in Slunder with a triple down the right-field line. Jordan Cozart followed with a groundout to give the Racers a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.
The Racers added five more runs in the third to blow the game open on five singles, including run-scoring singles from Trey Woosley, Tanner Booth, David Hudleson and Holly.
In the fifth, Holly and Brock Anderson added a run each on a single and sacrifice fly before Perkins hit a two-run double to give the Racers an 11-0 lead heading into the sixth inning.
The Peacocks had their biggest threat of the game in the sixth as they loaded the bases with one out but a force out at home and fly out to center ended the threat and kept Saint Peter's off the board.
For good measure, Holly gave the Racers an even dozen in the eighth as he knocked in his fourth RBI of the game with a fielder's choice.
After McMurray's day was done for the day, Jase Carvell and Jordyn Naranjo each threw a scoreless inning on the mound to close out the day.
