The Murray State women's basketball team will take its shortest road trip of the season Saturday for the second of a 3-game road swing against UT Martin. Tip-off from the Elam Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. on ESPN+, WNBS 97.9 FM and the Zeno radio app,
Scouting The Skyhawks
After a convincing win over Austin Peay Thursday, UT Martin is now 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the OVC. The two non-conference losses for the Skyhawks both came at Top-5 Louisville, while their lone OVC loss came on the road at Jacksonville State after an 18-day layoff.
The Skyhawks currently average 68.6 points per game while allowing 67.1. From the floor, they are currently shooting the second-highest percentage in the league at 44.3, while limiting opponents to a 39.6=percent clip. They also currently have the league's second-best 3-point field goal percentage at 36.1, while shooting a respectable 72.0-percent from the free throw line.
OVC Preseason Player of the Year Chelsey Perry currently leads the Skyhawks and league and nearly the nation in points per game. Her 28.3 points per game is currently only second to the 28.6 points per averaged by Middle Tennessee's Anastasia Harris.
A Win Saturday Would...
A win Saturday would mark the Racers' first win at the Elam Center in eight tries. The last MSU win in Martin was on Jan. 5, 2013, 82-72.
Free Throw-V-C
The OVC currently boast three of the nation's top-five active career free throw shooters. MSU's Macey Turley currently leads DI in active career free throw percentage at 88.01, while UTM's Chelsey Perry is fourth at 83.64. TSU's Taylor Roberts is currently fifth, just .0006 behind Perry at 83.58. In addition, SEMO's Tesia Thompson is currently third in D1 active career leaders in both free throws made and attempted at 477 and 636, respectively.
Anatomy of Perfection
Alexis Burpo, Bria Sanders-Woods, Macey Turley and Katelyn Young combined to help MSU go a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line Thursday. It was the first time in nearly 12 years that a Racer team had accomplished the feat and marks the seventh time in program history that MSU has been perfect in a game at the charity stripe. The last time the Racers saw perfection at the free throw line was also at SEMO on Feb. 19, 2009.
