Â
Founding OVC Members' Longest Running Series
The game is the 180th meeting between the Racers and Golden Eagles and it marks the continuation of the longest running series for both universities. Tech and Murray State first met in 1930 in Memphis and
only missed playing twice: in 1945 and 1946 because of WWII. The Racers were part of the founding schools that created the Ohio Valley Conference in 1948 along with Eastern Kentucky, Evansville, Louisville, Morehead State and Western Kentucky. Tech joined the OVC in 1949, the second school year of the league.
Â
Nearly An Amazing Moment
These days analytics in sports is used quite a bit as in percentages of this or that. When the Racers trailed Jacksonville State by 10 points with a 1:36 remaining, what do you supposed their chances of winning were at that moment? While we cannot be exact, we can assume the chance was minimal. However, the Racers almost turned that small chance into perhaps a season-defining victory. The Racers fell short 85-82 after having two chances to tie it in the final 11 seconds.
Â
Carter Produces Career Scoring Game
In the JSU game, Chico Carter Jr., came off the bench and scored 21 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the 3-point line. During one eight-minute period from 14:26 to 6:39, Carter was the only Racer to score. He made three 3-pointers and had a three-point play to keep MSU in the game. His four 3-point baskets tied his career-high.
Â
MSU Cut Down Turnovers
For the first time in 12 games this season, the Racers had less than five turnovers for their season-best. With two games of 20-plus turnovers this season, it was a good sign to see the Racers dramatically cut that trend down as a sign moving forward in OVC games.
Â
OVC Teams Deal With Pandemic
Results from the latest Covid tests is one the most important stats these days for any team. With a national average of about 75 percent of regularly scheduled games being played in NCAA D-I, the OVC has completed 80 percent of it's games through Thursday by playing 117-of-145 games. At the moment, the Racers have only two rescheduled OVC games to make up: at SEMO and SIUE (Feb. 1 & 9).
