Racers Host OVC Leading Belmont Bruins At CFSB Center
The Murray State Racers (7-7, 4-5) take on the Belmont Bruins (17-1, 11-0) in the second of two scheduled meetings in the 2020-21 season. Tip time at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky. is set for 7:30 p.m. It's a doubleheader day with the women's game starting at 4:30 p.m. and the men's game to come after. The game finds the Racers having won three of their last four and the Bruins atop the Ohio Valley Conference standings at 11-0.

Racers & Bruins First Meeting
Belmont won the first meeting with the Racers by a 68-55 final at the Curb Center in Nashville on Dec. 30. Brion Whitley led the Racers with 15 points, while KJ Williams added 11 points to the MSU attack. Whitley hit three of the Racers' five threes in the game. Tevin Brown led MSU with seven rebounds and five assists, but was limited to six points. Trailing by only a point at the start of the second half, the Bruins had an 8-0 run to push their lead to 44-34 at the 13:38 mark. MSU cut the lead to seven with 8:06 remaining, but never got any closer. MSU wants improve their shooting numbers from the first meeting where they hit 43 percent for the game on 21-of-29 and were 5-of-18 from the 3-point line for 28 percent.
Great Skill Set Makes KJ Williams Formidable In The OVC
Since setting the single-season field goal percentage record as a freshman in the
2018-19 season when he hit 69 percent on 111-of-159, MSU junior KJ Williams has always flashed an extra level of potential. We saw that Thursday in the Racers' 73-53 victory over Tennessee State. Williams scored a career-high 25 points on 9-of-16 from the field, including 1-of-3 from the 3-point line and he added six free throws in eight tries. His 16 rebounds tied his career-high. In OVC play, Williams is eighth in the in OVC scoring (15.2ppg), third in rebounding (8.7rpg) and third in field goal percentage (.624 on 53-of-85). Williams causes problems for defenders because he can also venture beyond the 3-point line where he has hit 29 of them this season.
CFSB Center - The Friendly Confines
The Racers enjoy one of the best home court advantages in all of college basketball as they play their 23rd season at the CFSB Center. MSU is 284-47 (.858) all-time at "The Bank" and 165-30 (.846) in OVC games. In the Coach Matt McMahon era, the Racers are 40-8 (.833) against OVC teams and 29-3 (.906) in the last four seasons in league play.
OVC Teams Deal With Pandemic
The OVC continues to do well in getting in regularly scheduled games. With the national average holding steady in the area of 75%, the OVC is above that having completed 81 percent of it's games in November, December and January. Entering the Jan. 30 games, The OVC has played 128-of-158 regularly scheduled games (.810) and 75 percent in January on 40-of-53. At the moment, the Racers have only two rescheduled OVC games to make up: at SEMO and SIUE (Feb. 1 & 9).
