MSU picks up win behind big nights from Turley and Young

The Murray State women's basketball team picked up its second win of the season Monday by defeating Cumberlands (KY), 94-56, at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky
Fast Facts
·      Macey Turley went 7-for-9 from 3-point range to lead all scorers with 30 points. The seven made 3-pointers are the third-most in a single game for the Racers with Turley becoming only the ninth player to hit seven or more 3-pointers in one game.
·      Katelyn Young set a new career-high in free throws made as she went 9-for-9 at the free throw line in the game. Young was also an impressive 7-for-11 from the field in the contest.
·      Young's 23 points Monday marks the third time in just three games this season that she has scored 20-or more points. The sophomore also had eight rebounds against the Patriots and is now averaging 21.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game this season.
·      With 30 points Monday, Turley passed not one, but two players on the program's all-time scoring list. Turley now has 1,349 career points, allowing her to pass Monika Gadson (1,341) and Diane Oakley (1,344) to settle in 11th on the list. Next up for Turley is Stephanie Minor who is currently 10th with 1,392 points.
·      Murray State continues to flourish at the free throw line under Rechelle Turner, as they shot 81.8-percent from the line on the night by going 27-for-33.
·      After shooting 50.8-percent from the field Monday, the Racers have shot over 50-percent in two of three games this season including at Missouri. Murray State is currently shooting 47.6-percent from the floor on the year.

The Racers opened the game on a 19-4 run and never looked back. The Racers outscored the Patriots, 33-9, in the first quarter and would go on to outscore them in every quarter that followed.

·      Alexis Burpo finished the night with seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Hannah McKay added eight points and five boards.
