The Game
The Murray State women's basketball team kicks off its 55th season Tuesday against Division III Asbury in a special 11 a.m. matinee at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
Series At A Glance
Tuesday will be the first-ever meeting between Asbury and Murray State in women's basketball.
Scouting The Eagles
The Eagles are coming off of a 14-6 season and trip to the River States Conference semifinals. Last season was Asbury's final season in the NAIA, as they are transitioning to NCAA Division III.
Â
The Eagles will return one of their two All-RSC selections from last season, Autumn Herriford. Herriford led Asbury last season in multiple categories with 14.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 blocks per game, in addition to averaging 2.0 steals and shooting 45.1-percent and 39.8-percent from the floor and from 3-point range, respectively.
A Win Would...
A win Tuesday would give the Racers their fourth consecutive home opener victory under head coach Rechelle Turner.
The Free Throw Whisperer
Under Rechelle Turner, the Racers have done some of their best free throw shooting in school history. In four years, Turner's teams have finished the season with a top-ten all-time free throw shooting percentage three times. Last season, the Racers shot 76.8-percent from the charity stripe.
