Racers lead for over 38 minutes in seventh win of 2021-22

After a tough loss 11 days ago at Samford, the Murray State women's basketball team bounced back Tuesday night at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky with a 74-60 win over North Alabama to improve to 7-2 on the season.

Murray State improved to 6-0 on the season when four or more Racers reach double-digit points in a game. Katelyn Young led all scorers in the contest with 17 points, while Hannah McKay followed at 13 and Lex Mayes and Alexis Burpo added 11 and 10, respectively.

The Racers are now 7-0 on the year when they outrebound and make more free throws than their opponents. MSU did just that Wednesday by winning the battle on the glass at 36-27 and going 17-for-20 at the free throw line compared to just 6-for-9 by North Alabama.

Despite a modest six points Wednesday, Macey Turley made her presence felt by dishing out seven assists, pulling down two rebounds and grabbing a steal.

Burpo led MSU's rebounding efforts Wednesday with seven, while Hannah McKay and Katelyn Young added five each.

Aside from the first two minutes Wednesday, the outcome of the game was never really in doubt, as the Racers held the lead for over 38 minutes of the contest. Murray State shot a blistering 51.0-percent from the field in the game, while holding North Alabama to just 39.0-percent. MSU led by as many as 33 in the game and held on for the 14-point win.

The Racers will now take 10 days off before returning to The Bank for a pair of home games. Murray State hosts North Alabama Dec. 14, followed by Lipscomb Dec. 18.
