The Game
The Murray State women's basketball team closes out its 2021-22 non-conference schedule Tuesday when it travels to Exatech Arena in Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators at 1 p.m. ET.
Series At A Glance
Tuesday will be the first-ever meeting between Murray State and Florida.
Scouting The Gators
Florida enters Tuesday's tilt with an overall record of 9-3 after a convincing 69-55 win over in-state rival Florida State, which had been receiving votes in both Top 25 polls, on Sunday.
The Gators are currently averaging 67.2 points on 41.-percent shooting with 39.2 rebounds per game, while their opponents average 61.9 points on 40.0-percent shooting with 35.8 rebounds per game.
Lavender Briggs currently leads Florida in scoring on the year at 13.0 points per games, while Kira Smith and Jordyn Merritt follow at 11.0 and 10.0, respectively. The trio of scorers are also the leading rebounders for the Gators with Briggs at 5.9 rebounds per game, Smith at 5.0 and Merritt at 4.7.
A Win Would...
A win Saturday would give Murray State its best 11-game start in program history at 9-2. The only previous MSU team to also go 9-2 was the 1988-89 edition of the Racers.
From Start To Finish
Three times this season Murray State has gone through an entire game and never trailed.
The Racers were never behind in the Cumberlands (KY), Mississippi Valley and Lipscomb games and led for a combine 118:53 of a possible 120 minutes in those contests.
The Floor Is Lava
Murray State has been consistently hot from the floor all season and is currently ranked seventh in the nation in the field goal percentage category at 47.7. Individually, Katelyn Young is second in the nation in field goal percentage at 71.3 percent.
Doing Work
Katelyn Young has now scored 20-plus points in seven out of 10 games this season for Murray State and has led the Racers in scoring on six occasions.
Out In Front Early On
For just the fourth time in program history, the Racers have won at least eight of their first 10 games with Saturday's victory over Lipscomb. The best 10-game start in program history occurred in 1988-89, while the Racers have now gone 8-2 three times in 1987-88, 2007-08 and now in 2021-22.
