Racers Back To Searching For Consistency
The Racers were looking at winning their third-straight road game Thursday at Morehead State. However, the evening ended with a 66-56 defeat to the high-flying Eagles who are the hottest team in the OVC with a 10-game win streak.
Â
The Racers had a one-point lead at halftime even though they went the final five minutes without a field and only two points from the free throw line. The Eagles started the second half on a 16-5 run for a 48-38 lead with 11:40 left and the Racers never recovered.
Â
The Racers hit 11 3-pointers at Morehead State but managed only four offensive rebounds in 35 missed shots and were out rebounded 30-21 to the Eagles.
Â
Williams closing on 1000
KJ Williams, the OVC Player of the Week, had an off night at Morehead State, but still scored seven points. He is looking at becoming the 48th member of the MSU 1000-Point Club. Williams now has 907 career points at Murray State in 81 games.
Â
SIUE Game Moved To Feb. 15
MSU will travel to Edwardsville, Illinois Monday (Feb. 15) to take on the SIUE Cougars at First Community Arena in a 4 p.m. tip off. SIUE's second game of the season against Jacksonville State, originally rescheduled for February 15, is now postponed. The game(s) were rescheduled after the OVC Council of Directors of Athletics took action to limit the number of games played in a week (Monday-Sunday) for a team to three (3) games. So far, the Racers have avoided any pause because of established protocols and made up their game at SEMO Monday. As a league, the OVC is ahead of the national average as they have played and completed 80 percent of the regularly scheduled games this season.
