Racers Take Smallbore at OVC Championships

MSU takes 12-point lead into final day of two-day match
The Murray State rifle team cruised to a victory in the smallbore portion of the 2020 OVC Rifle Championships with a score 2316 Saturday at the Button Rifle Range in Morehead, Kentucky. The host Eagles were second at 2304, while Jacksonville State and UT Martin followed at 2290 and 2257, respectively.
Individually, Murray State took three of the top four spots Saturday with Matias Kiuru leading the way at 587 to finish five points clear of his nearest competitor, Erin Diehl of Morehead State at 582. Racer freshman Allison Henry finished third overall at 580, while Dana Buesseler was one shot off in fourth at 579. Emily Fitzgerald rounded out the counters for MSU on the day at 570, while Anna Scheer finished with a 569.
Kiuru and the Racers return to Button Rifle Range in Morehead Sunday for the final day of the two-day championships. For the Finnish sophomore, he will be looking to defend his individual air rifle title from a year ago, while the Racers as a team will attempt to capture their fifth OVC championship in six years and 15th overall.

Relay 1 – 7:45 a.m. CT – Henry & Kiuru
Relay 2 – 10:45 a.m. CT – Scheer
Relay 3 – 1:45 p.m. CT – Buesseler & Patterson
