All-Time Series:
The Racers and Gamecocks have met 28 times prior to the weekend, with Jacksonville State leading the all-time series with a 17-11 record in those contests. JSU enters the weekend series as winners of nine-straight games against the Racers, with the last Murray State victory coming on May 7th, 2015 when the Racers knocked off the Gamecocks by a score of 5-4 at the OVC Tournament in Edwardsville, Illinois. With JSU's move to the ASUN next season, this weekend's series will be the final times the two sides meet in regular season OVC competition.
A Look at the Racers:
The Racers have taken at least two games from all five conference opponents they have faced in 2021, and will try for their best start in program history this weekend when they meet the Gamecocks. Murray State, who sits in second place in the OVC standings, has outscored its opponents 67-37 through 14 conference contests, and is averaging 4.79 runs per game in those games. Logan Braundmeier is hitting an even .400 in the OVC to compliment a .464 on-base percentage and .620 slugging percentage, while Jensen Striegel is batting .326 with nine stolen bases against conference foes. Additionally, Sierra Gilmore (14), Lily Fischer (12), and Lindsey Carroll (11) have each produced double-digit RBI totals through 14 OVC outings.
The Racer pitching staff has also been stellar since the start of conference action, owning a 1.88 ERA with 84 strikeouts in 104 innings of work. Taylor Makowsky (4-0, 1.38 ERA, 15 K) has been lights out in her five OVC appearances, while Hannah James (3-1, 1.54 ERA, 47 K) has been nearly unhittable, holding opponents to a .171 average in conference action. Jenna Veber rounds out an impressive trio with a 4-2 record and 2.62 ERA. The sophomore from Oswego, Illinois has also not issued a walk in 37.1 frames against OVC foes. Her 11.5 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranks sixth in the nation.
Scouting Jacksonville State:
The Gamecocks (8-16, 7-7 OVC) enter the weekend as winners of three straight after sweeping a midweek doubleheader against Tennessee Tech in their most recent outings. JSU is batting .243 as a team, and is averaging 3.17 runs per game across all competitions this season.
Senior outfielder Jada Terry paves the way for JSU offensively with a .356 average to pair with five home runs, and 19 RBIs as she leads the team in all of those categories. They have also seen productive at-bats from junior Karsen Mosley, who is hitting .338 after going 3-6 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs in the doubleheader victories against Tennessee Tech on Tuesday.
The Jacksonville State pitching staff is carrying a 3.79 ERA and is surrendering 4.67 runs per contest in 2021. Nicole Rodriguez and Reagan Watkins have worked the bulk of the innings, and have gone 4-3 (2.32 ERA) and 2-4 (3.33 ERA) respectively thus far.

Notes/Upcoming Milestones
- Jensen Striegel's 40 career stolen bases sit fourth-most in Murray State history. She needs just one more to catch Shelbey Miller's (2013-16) 41 for the #3 spot on the all-time list.
- Fifth-year senior Lexi Jones needs just one more home run to break into the top five on Murray State's all-time home runs list. Her 24 career round-trippers currently sit one behind Casey Castile's 25 for fifth-most in Racer history. Castile played for MSU from 2012-14.
- Sierra Gilmore's 105 career RBIs are tied with Jenna Bradley (2010-11) for fifth-most in program history. Additionally, she needs just five more to catch Maggie Glass (2014-17) for the #4 spot on the Murray State all-time list.
- With 95 strikeouts on the year, junior Hannah James owns sole possession of the #4 spot on the program's all-time strikeout list with 265 total in a Racer uniform. Her 22 career wins are also sixth-most in Racer history as she chases Chelsey Sullivan's (2010-12) 27 to move into the top five.
- Murray State's 2-1 defeat to Tennessee State in 16 innings last Friday marked the longest game in Murray State history, and also served as the longest contest in the OVC dating back to at least 2013. The one-of-a-kind competition is also the longest game of the season in NCAA Division-I, outlasting a 15-inning contest between Wisconsin and Ohio State on March 11th. Hannah James also set a new Murray State single-game record for innings pitched as she dealt 10.1 scoreless frames, striking out seven while allowing just three hits without issuing a single walk in the outing.
- Sierra Gilmore has posted eight multi-hit games on the year to lead the Racers in that category, while Lily Fischer has produced six multi-RBI performances.
