Racers Play Another Double DipÂ
Nearing the halfway mark of the Ohio Valley Conference season, the Racers take on the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles twice with games Monday and Thursday. TTU visits the CFSB Center where the Racers have won 11 in a row for a Monday 7 p.m. tip in Murray, Ky. MSU returns the game to the Eblen Center in Cookeville on Thursday at 6 p.m. Game 20 of the season finds the Racers 17-2 and 7-0 in the OVC. MSU Has won seven-straight games since their last loss (Dec. 22) at Auburn.
Racers Rank Well
In the NCAA D-I statistics rankings. in three games (all wins) against Eastern Illinois and UT Martin, the Racers locked down the opponent to the tune of a miniscule .348 field goal percentage. The Racers jumped 42 spots to 39th as their total defensive field goal percentage is .399 through 19 games.The Racers continue to rank in the top-20 (15th) in team field goal percentage at .490. MSU is also grabbing nearly 13 offensive rebounds per game and rank 24th in the nation. As the week begins, the Racers are 33rd in the NCAA Net Rankings as the highest ranked team in the OVC. MSU is 46th in the KenPom.com rankings. MSU was 5th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll.
Brown & Williams Continue To Amaze
Each having played more than 100 games in four years, Tevin Brown and KJ Williams have been tormenting OVC opponents. Brown is one of only three MSU players to score 1,000 points, grab 500 rebounds and give out 350 assists. Williams is the ninth Racer to score 1,000 and haul in 700 rebounds. With 765 rebounds, Williams will soon join a group of only seven Racers to score 1,000 points and grab 800 rebounds.Â
Brown Eyes OVC 3-Point Record
Tevin Brown set a new record for made 3-point baskets in the Racers' win at Eastern Illinois (Jan. 17) at 305 as he passed MSU Hall of Famer Isaiah Canaan who starred for the Racers from 2009-13 with 304. Entering the two games with TTU this week, Brown sits at 312 and only needs eight 3-pointers to break the OVC record of 319 currently held by Austin Peay's Joe Sibbitt (1994-98).
The Weeks Ahead For MSU
In the middle of playing eight games in 16 days, the games come and go quickly. On the horizon is a home game Saturday with Morehead State that could possibly be a clash for first place in the OVC. Then begins the crucial month of February where the Racers get Austin Peay twice in the Popeyes Battle of the Border and their second meeting with Belmont and Morehead State. Both the APSU and Belmont games (Feb. 17 & 24) will be aired to a national television audience on ESPNU.Â
