Murray State and Southern Illinois Meet For the First Time in the Missouri Valley Conference Wednesday
MSU Clashes With SIU - First Time In The Valley
The Murray State Racers begin the biggest part of the 2022-23 season with an 18-game run to March in the Missouri Valley Conference. The nine-week 18-game grind begins with the Southern Illinois Salukis coming to Murray on a four-game win streak. Tip time at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky. is 7 p.m.

In the decorated histories of these two great programs, they have combined for 28 appearances in the NCAA Tournament (18 for the Racers and 10 for the Salukis) and their series dates all the way back to the founding of each university in the 1920s. This history Includes the first game at the arena in 1998 with its original name of the Regional Special Events Center (RSEC). The Racers and Salukis have met eight times at the arena, with MSU winning five. MSU has won the last two in 2017 and 2019. Southern's last win in Murray was in 2015. MSU has won its last 20 at the CFSB Center dating back to a loss to Eastern Illinois in 2021.

Schedule Watch - Drama Ramps Up In Total MVC Play
With a few days remaining in 2022, the MVC schedule for the Racers gains momentum with the Racers taking on the Evansville Purple Aces on New Year's Day at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. The Racers host Bradley for the first time in Murray (Jan. 4) and make their first trip to Iowa to face Drake (Jan. 7) and Northern Iowa (Jan. 10). It all leads up to State Farm Arch Madness (March 2-5) at the MVC Tournament where all 12 teams go to the event at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.

Cameron Payne's Jersey To Be Retired
Murray State 2020 Hall of Fame member, Cameron Payne will have his jersey retired (Jan. 14) when the Racers host the UIC Flames. Payne arrived at MSU from Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis in fall of 2013 and in 69 games in two seasons wearing No. 1, he became a lottery pick in the 2015 NBA Draft .The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Payne in the first round as the 14th overall pick. After playing for the Thunder, Bulls, Raptors and Cavaliers, Payne found a home in 2020 with the Phoenix Suns and is with the team for a fourth year.
