MSU has won five-straight in advance of mid-week matchup
Winners of each of their last five games, the Murray State softball team (15-9) welcomes UTEP to Racer Field Thursday for one game at 3 p.m., airing nationally on ESPN+. It will be the first ever meeting between the Racers and the Miners.
After dropping their first home game of the year to Loyola Chicago, the Racers have since reeled off five straight, all at home, and outscoring their opponents, 28-7 in the process. The MSU pitching staff has played a huge role in the streak, shutting out opponents in three of the five games and striking out 44 total batters or 8.8 per game. Murray State will enter Thursday ranked 12th nationally in ERA at 1.43, seventh in hit batters at just three, 23rd in shutouts with seven and 21st in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 4.29:1.
Hannah James and Jenna Veber currently lead the Racer pitching staff with ERAs of 1.66 and 1.52, respectively, to go along with 72 strikeouts for James and 30 for Veber. Offensively, Logan Braundmeier leads the way for Murray State with team highs of a .375 batting average, five home runs, 21 RBIs and seven stolen bases.
UTEP enters Thursday's game with a record of 10-15 overall after dropping two of three to UTSA last weekend in its C-USA opening series. The Miners are currently hitting .268 as a team with a slugging percentage of .399 and an on-base percentage of .345. In the circle, UTEP has a staff ERA of 6.14 with 5.0 strikeouts per game and an opponent's batting average of .345.
