Murray State Fell to Belmont 13-6 on Friday Afternoon
Murray State (15-9) baseball fell to Belmont 13-6 on Friday at Johnny Reagan Field in Murray, Kentucky. The Racers move to 1-3 in OVC play with the conference season beginning just one week ago.
Â
The Bruins bats proved to be too much for the Racers to handle, posting at least three runs in four different innings. The Racers offense was led by team captains Jake Slunder and Bryson Bloomer. Slunder posted three hits from the lead-off spot for MSU while Bloomer blasted home runs in each of the first and eighth innings. Bloomer has tied the home run lead for the Racers with Brennan McCullough with four each.
Â
Graduate catcher Alex Crump collected two hits of his own in the contest and scored two runs. The backstop has now scored 18 runs in 19 games played on the year.
Â
Redshirt sophomore Malik Pogue proved to be effective out of the MSU bullpen, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings while striking out two and not allowing a Belmont hit. Pogue has been one of the top arms for the Racers this week after also picking up the win against Alabama A&M on Wednesday.
Â
Murray State will celebrate seven baseball seniors prior to the game on Saturday afternoon. Bryson Bloomer, Alex Crump, Jordan Holly, Adrien Reese, Wes Schad, Jake Slunder, and Alec Whaley will all be honored for their contributions to the baseball program. Senior day festivities will begin at approximately 1:40 pm with first pitch of the game set for 2 pm. Coverage of the game can be found on ESPN+
