Murray State and SEMO Meet for OVC Championship Rematch
Murray State (15-12) baseball squares off with preseason OVC favorites Southeast Missouri this weekend at Capaha Field in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Murray State and SEMO are facing off for the first time since the 2021 OVC Championship game. The Racers and Redhawks came into the 2022 season as the preseason top two teams in the OVC.Â
Leading the MSU offense is graduate outfielder Jake Slunder who comes into the series with a .330 batting average while placing second nationally with five triples. The leadoff man has started 25 of 27 games for the Racers while driving in 14 RBIs and scoring 21 runs of his own. Jacob Pennington continues to star as a two-way player for the Racers carrying a .322 batting average and a 2.59 ERA across 24.1 innings pitched. Bryson Bloomer leads the Racers with five home runs, all coming in OVC play.Â
Scouting Report
SEMO comes into the series at 20-7 after dropping the series to Austin Peay last weekend. The Redhawks are 6-4 in their last 10 games and sit at 4-2 in OVC play.Â
The Redhawks are led by preseason OVC player of the year, Tyler Wilber on the offensive side with his .311 average and nine home runs this season. The infielder has eight doubles with a .417 on-base percentage.Â
 Kyle Miller leads the Redhawks pitching staff with 24.2 innings pitched and a 1.46 ERA on the year. Miller has struck out 29 while walking just eight and giving up 17 hits.
