Blanton leads Racers to season-high performance
The Murray State rifle team opened the second half of their 2022-23 season with a statement performance at UT Martin, outshooting the Skyhawks, 4716-4554, Saturday at the Skyhawk Rifle Range in Martin, Tennessee.
The Racers shot a 2245 in smallbore and followed it up with a 2309 in air rifle, which was one off the school record. The 4716 aggregate shot by the Racers Saturday tied their season high.
John Blanton put up season-highs in smallbore, air rifle and aggregate at 589, 594 and 1183, respectively. Matias Kiuru also had a big day, shooting a 586 smallbore and a 594 in air rifle for an aggregate 4716. In air rifle, Allison Henry shot a match-high 596, while Scott Patterson shot a 594.
The Racers return to action next weekend when they host the 2023 Withrow Invitational presented by Lapua at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Kentucky.
